Compare and contrast - Strategic Deterrence with the Soviets (Eisenhower through Reagan) and Appeasement with the Nazis (Chamberlain, Baldwin, Daladier, Blum, et al).
Deterrence is what I'm pushing. We studiously avoided war with the Soviets, as we should with Iran, which represents a hundredth of the threat.
