Restorative Reading
When the Mount Calvary monastery and retreat house in November burned last November, resident brothers of the Order of Holy Cross couldn't save very much -- a few personal effects and artworks as well as some of the books from their library. They stashed the books under a tarp near the burn site, where they were threatened by torrential rains a few weeks later. The brothers finally decided to give the books to Dennis Gibbs, a Holy Cross associate, on the condition that he swap them for contributions to Prism, our Diocese's restorative justice ministry.
