China Conference At Nixon Foun--! No, It's UCLA

UCLA manages to put together a high-level conference on Richard Nixon's world-changing visit to China featuring former top diplomat Richard Solomon, Gen. Wesley Clark, former Nixon library director Tim Naftali, and two academics currently or formerly associated with my alma mater, UC San Diego, Ho Miu Lam and Susan Shirk.

Big Misery On Campus

Experts say college students are more stressed out than ever, because of their worries about declining opportunity after graduation, their student loans, their parents' unemployment, and the pressure they've been putting themselves under since high school. It's worse for young women than men:

“One aspect of it is how women and men spent their leisure time,” [UCLA's Linda Sax] said. “Men tend to find more time for leisure and activities that relieve stress, like exercise and sports, while women tend to take on more responsibilities, like volunteer work and helping out with their family, that don’t relieve stress.”

Four Naullses

Lisa Naulls (second from right), a gifted mezzo soprano who sings in the St. John's Choir, was joined at lunch today in Rancho Santa Margarita by her parents, Willie and Dr. Ann Naulls. Pastor Willie Naulls played for UCLA, the Knicks, and the Celtics (where he won consecutive NBA championships in 1964-66). He's holding Lisa's son, Jonathan.
